Jeep Compass Black Shark Edition introduced in India
The Jeep Compass 2WD diesel with an automatic transmission is priced at Rs 23.99 lakh. The diesel automatic powerplant, which was previously only available with all-wheel drive, is now also available with front-wheel drive, making it about Rs 6 lakh less expensive than before.
In addition, the American SUV manufacturer has reduced the entry-level price of the Compass to Rs 20.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and launched a new Black Shark variant with visual upgrades for the MY2024 model.
The new Jeep Compass is available in five trim levels: Sport, Longitude, Longitude+, Limited, and Model S. The Sport trim remains the entry-level vehicle and is only available with the diesel-manual powertrain.
Jeep has also used the occasion to launch a new Black Shark Edition of the Compass. This specification features a black Jeep logo, Black Shark badging on the front fenders, glossy black 18-inch Jeep Meridian alloy wheels, a gloss black lower fascia, a body colour roof and claddings, and a black Jeep logo.
Jeep's 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine produces 170PS and 350Nm of torque in this 2WD variant. The automatic transmission is a nine-speed gearbox that is also offered on the higher 4WD AT versions. Jeep claims a 0-100kmph time of 9.8 seconds, which places it among the quickest in its class. The diesel automatic is stated to have a fuel economy of 16.2 kmpl.
The Jeep Compass Black Shark is based on the Limited trim level. Full LED reflector headlights, LED fog lights, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.1-inch TFT touchscreen infotainment panel running Uconnect 5 UI, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and more are among the features and creature comforts. Only the Model S has LED projector headlights and a completely computerized 10.25-inch instrument display.
Up to 60 standard safety measures are included with the Black Shark trim. ABS, EBD, ESC, braking assist, hill start assist, rear seatbelt reminder warning, rain brake assist, and more features are available. With the new automatic 4X2 standard variations, Jeep has redesigned the suspension system to offer maximum comfort and driving performance.
