Jeep Meridian Vs Jeep Compass: What's different?

The long-awaited Jeep Meridian three-row SUV made its debut in India recently. The new seven-seater SUV is expected to debut in May 2022. The Jeep Meridian is very different from the Jeep Compass as it is bigger in every aspect. Here's how the two cars are different from each other in Jeep's attempt to give both these big SUVs an identity of their own.

Jeep Meridian Vs Jeep Compass - Design And Dimensions

The biggest difference between these two is their dimensions. The Jeep Meridian is a whole lot longer than the Jeep Compass at 4,769mm, to accommodate that extra row of seating. The Jeep Meridian is also 1,859mm wide and 1,682mm tall, while the Jeep Compass is1,818mm and 1,640mm, respectively. The wheelbase of the Jeep Meridian is also 158mm longer than the Jeep Compass.

The Jeep Meridian features an entirely new design and all-new body panels. The SUV borrows stylistic ideas from Jeep's larger models, such as the Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer. It has the Jeep Compass's characteristic 7-slat grille, however, it sits higher on the car than the Jeep Compass's. For easy access to the third row, the SUV has a longer back overhang and wider rear doors.

Jeep Meridian Vs Jeep Compass - Engines And Performance

The Jeep Meridian will be powered by Jeep's 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which is already available in the Jeep Compass. Despite the fact that Jeep hasn't published exact power and torque ratings for the Meridian, we estimate it to be similar to the Compass' 173PS and 350Nm. The Jeep Compass is offered with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is good for 165PS and 250Nm of torque.

A 6-speed manual transmission and a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission are available. The manual SUV will have a 4x2-drivetrain, while the automatic SUV will have both 4x2- and 4x4-speed transmissions. Sand, Snow, Auto and Mud are the four driving modes available on the Jeep Meridian only.

Jeep Meridian Vs Jeep Compass - Interior And Features

The Jeep Meridian's dashboard is mostly identical to the Jeep Compass, with the exception of a new black and brown colour scheme, which contrasts with the Compass' all-black interior. A new perforated and quilted design is also featured on the brown leather-wrapped seats. The Meridian's third row of chairs, however, is its most notable feature. For the time being, the Jeep Meridian is only available in a 7-seater configuration with a middle-row bench seat, however, a 6-seater version with captain's seats for the middle row is expected to join the lineup at a later date.

It has a 10.1-inch touchscreen display and U-Connect 5, which offers a variety of linked car technology capabilities. A 10.2-inch digital instrument panel and a nine-speaker HD surround sound system are included. The SUV's front row seats are ventilated and electrically adjustable. Dual-zone climate control, six airbags, hill start and descent control, a panoramic sunroof, and other features are included in the SUV. The Jeep Meridian also comes with a powered tailgate, which isn't available in the Jeep Compass.

Jeep Meridian Vs Jeep Compass - Prices And Variants

Jeep hasn't revealed any pricing details regarding the Jeep Meridian as yet, but we expect it to be priced at a Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh premium over the Compass. Bookings for the Meridian will begin in May with deliveries in June 2022. The Jeep Compass range starts from Rs 17.79 lakh and goes up to Rs 30.72 lakh for a range topping Trailhawk variant. All prices are ex-showroom.
