Kerala imposes ban on two-wheeler rider pillion conversation

In order to minimise the risk of accidents and fatalities as well as to improve road safety, Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has implemented a new rule for the state dwellers. A rider cannot talk to their pillion passengers. This moves aims to avoid any distraction for the rider while riding. As per the new law, if the rider is caught speaking to their pillion, a fine will be imposed on the person riding. However, the fine amount for the new rule has not been disclosed yet.

According to Kerala Kaumundi, K Manoj Kumar, Joint Transport Commissioner has sent a notice to all the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in the state, stating that action can be taken if such an incident takes place. Nonetheless, the Motor Vehicle Department officials will have a hard time finding a solution to implement the new law.

In 2022, the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) of Kerala had announced that riders mounting a camera on their helmets while riding would have their driving privileges suspended for three months. Not to mention, a fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed too.
