Kia Seltos X-Line vs Carens X-Line: Differences explained

Afrer launching the Seltos X-Line and Sonet X-Line, South Korean carmaker Kia recently introduced the Carens X-Line. This new special variant brings a matte paint job and contrasting design elements to the MPV. The X-Line variant sits atop the variant line-up of the Carens and comes with both petrol and diesel powertrain options. Here we compare the 2023 Seltos X-Line with the new Carens X-Line.

Kia Seltos X-Line vs Carens X-Line: Engine

To begin with, both the X-Line Carens and Seltos are based on their corresponding range-topping variants. They are powered by a new 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbo-diesel unit paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The petrol motor makes 160PS and 253Nm of torque, while the diesel unit produces 116PS and 250Nm of torque.

The Carens X-Line and Seltos X-Line feature the same Matte Graphite colour scheme paired with a glossy black treatment for the grille, outside rearview mirrors, front and rear bumpers, and door garnish. It also gets X-Line badges. Having said that, Kia has given it the same 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The Seltos X-Line is not very different from the Carens X-Line as it also comes with the Matte Graphite shade and blacked-out highlights on the grille, front and rear bumpers, and side door panels.

On the inside, the Seltos X-Line gets an all-black cabin with inserts in Sage Green instead of White in the standard GT variants. The Carens X-Line also features a black interior with Splendid Sage Green accents. The biggest difference between the two, however, is the Carens X-Line is available with a six-seat layout.

The Carens X-Line stands out with a new rear-seat entertainment screen that features screen mirroring and various in-built apps. It can be controlled via a smartphone app. But what the Carens X-Line misses out compared to the Seltos X-Line is Level 2 autonomy, a 360deg camera, dual-zone temperature control, a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, powered front seat, and electric parking brake with auto hold.

Kia Seltos X-Line vs Carens X-Line: Ex-showroom prices

While new Carens X-Line petrol and diesel cost Rs 18.95 lakh and Rs 19.45 lakh, the Seltos X-Line S petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 19.60 lakh, whereas the top-of-the-line X-Line variants come with a price tag of Rs 20 lakh. This makes the Seltos X-Line Rs 55,000 costlier than the Carens X-Line.
