Kia Sonet completes 4 lakh sales milestone
The Kia Sonet has reached an impressive milestone by selling over 4 lakh units in just 44 months after its debut. Of these, 317,754 were sold domestically, with an additional 85,814 shipped to other markets. Kia India also states that Sonet commands 33.3 percent of their overall sales.
The sunroof variants of the Kia Sonet are the most popular, accounting for 63 percent of sales. In terms of engine choice, the Sonet's 1.5-litre diesel engine is chosen by 37 percent of buyers, while petrol engine variants account for 63 percent of total sales. Kia has also seen a 37.5 percent rise in demand for the automatic model, which features a 7DCT gearbox. Automatic choices now contribute 28 percent, with the iMT accounting for a consistent 23 percent
Sonet has been a popular choice for new-age customers, selling an average of over 9,000 units every month. Sonet was updated in January 2024, with ADAS, a slightly new design, and 70 connected features, resulting in a 14 percent share of the highly competitive CSUV segment in Q1 CY2024.
The Kia Sonet's pricing ranges from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 15.75 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes with three engine options: a 1-litre turbo-petrol (120PS/172Nm), a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (83PS/115Nm), and a 1.5-litre diesel (116PS/250Nm).
Commenting on the Sonet's success, Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India, commented, "The compact SUV segment presents a big opportunity, with many first-time buyers entering the segment directly. Sonet is our second-best innovation, and it has captured their imagination perfectly. It offers them a futuristic, tech-enabled, comfortable mobility solution designed very well and with low ownership costs."
