Kia Syros makes global debut in India

Kia has taken the wraps off the most awaited Syros, B-SUV in India. The Syros will join the Sonet in the sub-4 metre offering from Kia and bookings for the car will begin from January 3 onwards. Apart from the prices, Kia has unveiled everything including the 2 powertrains and the HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and HTX+(O) variants that the Syros will be offered in.

Kia Syros: Exterior

The all-new Kia Syros only shares its length with the Sonet at 3,995mm. In every other aspect, it is larger. The car is 1,805mm wide and 1,680mm tall and also has a 50mm longer wheelbase than the Sonet.

The Syros appears to have been influenced visually by international Kia EVs like the EV9 and EV3. The SUV has an upright, boxy snout and headlights that are stacked vertically at the bumper's corners. In addition, it features vertical LED DRLs to go with its vertically stacked LED headlights.

It has hefty silver body cladding, flush-type door handles, and roof rails painted the same colour as the B-pillars. Additionally, it has 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that resemble the EV9's look. The back bumper has a two-tone black and silver finish, and the high-mounted L-shaped taillights encircle the rear glass.

The Kia Syros is available in 8 exterior colour options: Sparkling Silver, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Intense Red, Pewter Olive, Glacier White, Aurora Black and Frost Blue.

Kia Syros: Powertrains

Just as expected, under the hood of the new Kia Syros there is a choice of either a petrol or a diesel engine. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol puts out 120PS and 172Nm while the 1.5-litre diesel is good enough for 116PS and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed MT, 7-speed DCT (petrol) and 6-speed torque converter automatic (diesel).

Kia Syros: Interior & Features

Once inside, the Kia Syros's cabin has dual-tone interior themes. Highlights include the temperature control system's 5-inch screen and the infotainment and instrument cluster's two 12.3-inch screens. Additionally, a band of physical switches for the HVAC settings is mounted on the dashboard.

The features list looks stacked with a new two-spoke steering wheel, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon-sourced music system, panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, 360-degree camera, Kia Connect, rear seats with ventilation and recline functions, a wireless charger and a lot more. Safety features include 6 standard airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat mounts, a dual dashcam setup, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.

Kia Syros: Rivals & Expected Price

The new Kia Syros will face competition from the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Brezza and the upcoming Skoda Kylaq. Bookings for the car will begin on January 3 and deliveries are set to begin in February. The Syros will sit above the Sonet and below the Seltos so prices are expected to begin at Rs 8.50 - Rs 9 lakh while the top of the line HTX+(O) variant could be priced between Rs 15.50 - Rs 17 lakh.
