Long Live the V12! Aston Martin teases its most potent 12-cylinder yet
Considering most of the automobile industry is busy boosting their electrification process, Aston Martin remains devoted to the appeal of internal combustion, promising a new V12 engine that will arrive in 2024 in its next flagship vehicle. The British automaker has introduced its latest wonder, a freshly designed V12 engine, signalling a strong commitment towards its 25-year heritage of flagship V12-powered automobiles.
Earlier in April, Aston Martin revealed a new course ahead, purposefully delaying plans for all-electric cars in favour of continued development of plug-in hybrid gas models for the foreseeable future. The firm has now unveiled a revamped V-12 powertrain for its future models.
The twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder engine is handcrafted and produces 835PS and 1,000Nm of torque. This indicates that the new engine has more power than the 5.2-litre V12 that currently powers the DBS Superleggera and DBS Superleggera Volante.
Key enhancements include stronger cylinder blocks and connecting rods, revised cylinder heads with reprofiled camshafts, and larger intake and exhaust ports. Furthermore, the engine has freshly positioned spark plugs and greater flow-rate fuel injectors, which, along with upgraded, quicker turbochargers, provide excellent combustion and efficiency.
Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer, Roberto Fedeli said: "The V12 engine has long been a symbol of power and prestige, but it is also a statement of engineering passion and technical prowess. With 835PS and 1000Nm of torque, this unparalleled engine represents nothing less than the dawn of a dazzling new V12 era for Aston Martin."
As to which car might get this new V12 powerplant is still under wraps but we suspect since Aston Martin will be reviving the Vanquish nameplate, they could plonk this new engine in that. We could also see the DBX SUV get this V12 since we're almost sure it can pack more than just a V8 under the hood.
