Lotus Emeya breaks cover as the British brands upcoming flagship
Lotus has unveiled the Emeya, a high-performance electric car that will be marketed alongside the Eletre SUV. Lotus continues to hit the market with another new product as the brand makes a daring leap with its new sleek electric sports car created to combat the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S, set to go into production in 2024.
Lotus' innovative Electric Premium Architecture underpins the Emeya. This custom construction is scalable to numerous automobile segments, battery sizes, electric motors, component layouts, and intelligent driving technologies. The Emeya is expected to have a 918PS, 985Nm of torque punch, courtesy of a dual-motor EV engine shared with the top-spec Eletre R, and is capable of speeding to 100 kmph in 2.5 seconds, according to Lotus. The Emeya, like the Porsche, has a two-speed gearbox linked to the e-motor driving the rear axle, allowing it to reach 250 kmph.
Lotus says the Emeya has a pair of electric motorsâÂ"one up front and one in the backâÂ"for full-time AWD, driven by a 102kWh battery that can take a 350kW DC charger to add 150km in five minutes. The range hasn't been confirmed yet but it is expected to be somewhere between 500 km and 600 km
Lotus Emeya: Design and Interior
The Emeya's powerful design is brimming with active aerodynamic aids, such as an active front grille that closes to minimize drag and opens to cool the batteries and brakes when needed. At high speeds, an active air lip enhances downforce on the front axle, increasing handling and stability. An active diffuser and an active dual-layer rear spoiler are located at the back of the vehicle.
The Emeya rides on 22-inch wheels with semi-active electronically adjustable air suspension. It is also the second Lotus in history to include electric power steering, with the rack fastened directly to the chassis to improve input. Because of the significant amount of Eletre hardware under the skin, the Emeya will very certainly include rear-wheel steering to improve both low-speed agility and high-speed stability.
Inside, performance cues like carbon-bodied front seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel are paired with more obviously opulent components like individual back seats, digital rear-view mirror displays, and high-quality materials. Lotus also mentions a 55-inch 'projected augmented reality head-up display,' which we assume is a sophisticated HUD displaying navigation, ADAS, obstacle alerts, lane-departure assist, and so on.
The Lotus facility in Wuhan, China, will begin production of the Emeya next year. Trim levels and costs are likely to be similar to the Eletre.
