Mahindra Thar 5-door spotted testing once again
Mahindra's long-awaited five-door version of the Thar has been spotted testing multiple times. Now, with bookings for the Maruti Suzuki Jimny underway, the Mahindra Thar is more anticipated than ever. This time, inside photos of the test mule, seen on test runs have made it to the internet.
Thanks to the extended wheelbase, the second row of the five-door Thar will now have more room. Additionally, a long-range transmission was missing from the prototype's automatic gearbox. The latter's absence suggests that testing of the 2WD or rear-wheel-drive variant of the extended Thar is likely. The 2WD version of Mahindra's three-door Thar, which comes with both gasoline and diesel engines, was just released.
The body is a jumble of colours and various accessories because it is a test mule. The front fascia is red, and some of the hinges are grey. The previous oval logo present on this specific test mule will be replaced with Mahindra's new Twin Peaks emblem on production-spec cars. Along with this specimen, new rectangular LED fog lamps have also been seen.
As with the Swift, the rear door handle is located on the C-pillar. Rear washer/wiper is still absent from the rear windscreen. The trunk capacity will be significantly more than the 3-door variant because to the longer wheelbase and longer body. The features will probably remain the same as the 3-door equivalents.
In addition, the cabin appears to be a holdover from the previous generation. With a touchscreen infotainment system, rounded air conditioning vents, a height-adjustable driver seat, and a hard top, it has a black motif.
Two engines are available for the current Thar: a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. While the latter is capable of 130PS, the former delivers a robust 150PS. A smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine from the XUV300, which produces 117PS and 300 Nm of peak torque, and a six-speed manual transmission are both used in the recently released 2WD Thar.
