Mahindra Thar 5-door to debut on August 15, 2023 in South Africa; launch in 2024
The much-anticipated Mahindra Thar 5-door is set to make its global premiere in South Africa on August 15. On August 15, Mahindra will introduce a new product for the fourth time in a row. Mahindra debuted its born-electric prototypes in the United Kingdom last year.
The 5-door version of the famous off roader will only be unveiled in August of 2023 but will officially go on sale only next year. Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director & CEO, Mahindra & Mahindra said in an interview last month, " Our five-door Thar is a highly anticipated product. It's not coming in this calendar year, much as many people are speculating it is. It's a 2024 launch."
The Mahindra Thar 5-door will be built on the same chassis as the three-door model, but it will be longer. In terms of size, the 5-door variant will be longer and will have a larger wheelbase. Having stated that, the Thar will be more than 4 meters long.
Two engines are available for the current Thar: a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. While the latter is capable of 130PS, the former delivers a robust 150PS. Mahindra will also keep the same transmission options, including a manual and a torque converter automatic.
The cabin of the forthcoming Thar 5-door will be identical to that of the current-generation Mahindra Thar. It will come with a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, air conditioning, power windows, ABS, EBD, numerous airbags, and other features.
South Africa has always been an important market for Mahindra. The introduction of one of its core vehicles in this market appears to be a deliberate move to indicate commitment to and interest in that market. Mahindra currently sells the XUV300, XUV700, and Scorpio N vehicles in South Africa.
