Mahindra Thar Roxx launch on August 15: What to expect?
Mahindra is all set to launch the Thar 5-door which we know will be called the Thar Roxx on August 15. The homegrown brand has teased the all-new upcoming lifestyle SUV multiple times and we know for a fact that it will get multiple exterior as well as interior updates over the 3-door Thar that is currently on sale. Let's take a quick look at whatever we know so far about the upcoming Thar Roxx and a couple of more things customers should expect once the car goes on sale.
The 3-door Thar has been very popular in the country but something owners of the Thar do wish for is a few additional features. Mahindra will look to address that issue with the Thar Roxx as we know for a fact that it will come loaded to the brim. The biggest talking point is the new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a massive panoramic sunroof.
The new Thar Roxx will include a locking rear differential, ventilated front seats, hill descent control, an ADAS suite, an automatic climate control system, circular air conditioning vents on both sides, a music system sourced from Harman Kardon, front armrests, white dashboard stitching and seats, and rotary dials air conditioning functions.
Mahindra Thar Roxx: Powertrains
The new Thar Roxx is expected to get the same engines as the Thar: a 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine generating 152PS and 300Nm of torque (320Nm with AT) and a 2.2-litre inline four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel unit that delivers 132PS and 300Nm of torque. Also, there is a possibility of Mahindra offering it with more powerful petrol and diesel engines from the Scorpio-N, which makes 175PS/370Nm of torque (400Nm with AT) in petrol version and 200PS/370Nm (380Nm with AT) in diesel guise.
Mahindra Thar Roxx: Exterior
In terms of looks, the Thar Roxx does look much bigger than its 3-door sibling. It bears a strong resemblance to the on-sale Thar, but also bears some additional design elements. The key highlights redesigned front end with a new grille, LED projector headlights integrated with DRLs, LED fog lamps, and a dual-tone front bumper similar to the Thar. Also, there are new alloy wheels and front parking sensors.
Mahindra Thar Roxx: Variants
In terms of variants, we expect Mahindra to offer the Thar Roxx across a wide variety of variants. We expect the lower variant to be RWD much like the 3-door car but Mahindra will offer 4WD from the mid-variant onwards itself as they wish to appeal to a larger audience. None of the variants will be offered with a third row of seats though. The Thar Roxx will strictly be a 5-seater with a bench seat in the middle row and added space at the rear will only be for cargo.
Mahindra Thar Roxx: Price
Bookings for the Thar Roxx will commence on Independence Day itself with deliveries set to begin shortly after. The price of the upcoming Thar Roxx may range from Rs 13-16 lakh to Rs 19-22 lakh. In contrast, the Thar costs Rs 11.35-17.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
