Mahindra XUV500 W3 base variant launched in India at Rs 12.22 lakh, ex-showroom
Mahindra and Mahindra have added a new base variant to the XUV500 SUV, called the W3 which has been priced at Rs 12.22 lakh, ex-showroom. Previous to this update, the XUV500 was being offered in W5, W9, W11 and W11 optiona variants wherein W5 is priced at Rs 12.80 lakh and the most premium spec variant, W11 Optional with AWD and AT is available at Rs 19.63 lakh, ex-showroom. The newly launched W3 variant is Rs 57,877 lower than the previous base variant W5. Interestingly, with this pricing, the W3 competes with the Nexon XZ Plus diesel, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga ZDi, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza ZDi+, Renault Duster RXS CVT, Nissan Kicks and the Hyundai Creta.
In terms of features list, the W3 comes equipped with projector headlights, jacquard fabric upholstery, dual front airbag, ABS with EBD, disc brakes on all wheels, power adjustable ORVMs, engine immobilizer and manual air-conditioner. The W3 variant will come equipped with 152PS mHawk155 engine that generates 360Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

In other news, Mahindra and Mahindra and Ford have entered into an agreement to co-develop a midsize sports utility vehicle (SUV) that will be sold in India as well as other emerging markets. The joint press release mentions that the new agreement reinforces the steady progress made since the announcement of the strategic alliance between the two companies in September 2017, followed by an announcement on powertrain sharing and connected car solutions in October 2018. The upcoming midsize SUV (C-SUV) will a common Mahindra product platform and powertrain, thus driving engineering and commercial efficiencies. This new mid-sized SUV is also being speculated to be a replacement of the Mahindra XUV500.
