Mahindra's BE 6e & XEV 9e to debut on November 26
Mahindra looks all set to unveil its new-age EVs in 2024. The latest teaser confirms that the homegrown brand will debut the BE 6e and XEV 9e on November 26. Mahindra first showcased its new EV concepts in 2022 at the brand's design studio in the UK and the first set of cars now appear to be production-ready.
It seems like Mahindra will be changing the names of its upcoming EVs from what they had said earlier. In 2022, Mahindra stated that the BE (Born Electric) brand car would be the BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09. As per the teaser video, the first car from the new sub-brand will be the BE 6e. Even the XUV.e9 name will be changed to XEV 9e.
The EV-specific INGLO platform will underpin both the BE 6e and XEV 9e. The BE 6e will be 4,370 long, 1,900 wide and 1,635 mm tall and will most likely go up against the all-new Tata Curvv EV, the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki eVX.
Big C-shaped LED DRLs are installed on the front of the BE 6e and a futuristic, flamboyant design will also give it an aerodynamic profile. Additionally, the wheels are expected to be designed to lessen air resistance. Mahindra has previously teased the car in almost production form that showed a birds-eye perspective of the SUV with the massive glass roof in the centre and wraparound windshield image.
Both RWD and AWD configurations of the BE 6e are expected to be on offer. There will also be two battery packs with the smaller pack rumoured to be around 60kWh while the larger one will be around 80kWh. Both batteries will support fast charging and the bigger one is set to have a range of nearly 500 kilometres.
The XEV 9e will be 4740 mm long, 1,900mm wide 1,760 mm tall and have a wheelbase of 2,775 mm. The XUV.e9 will essentially be an SUV-coupe variant of the XUV.e8 (which would now be the XEV 8e) which in turn is an electrified XUV700. So on the inside, it will get the twin 10.25-inch driver display and infotainment screen but the electric model will get an additional 10.25-inch screen for the passenger. Even the centre console will be slightly redesigned.
It's still unsure as to what drive train and battery capacity this SUV will have but we don't think it will be much different from the BE 6e. The XEV 9e will lock horns against the upcoming Tata Harrier EV.
