Makers of the Rimac Nevera has just showcased a Robotaxi concept
The creator of Rimac, Mate Rimac, has introduced Verne, a new level 4 autonomous electric vehicle brand that will go on sale in 2026. With the Verne RoboTaxi concept - named for 19th-century French writer Jules Verne, the Croatian brand has taken a swing at fully autonomous vehicles.
Most notably, Rimac is recognized for its electric hypercar, the Nevera, and its unexpected acquisition of Bugatti. Verne will have an entirely electric Level 4 autonomous car, created by Adriano Mudri, well-known for the Nevera. The car will be equipped with Mobileye's self-driving technology and have a stylish, two-door design. It can accommodate up to two people and provide a comfortable and roomy journey.
The Verne robotaxi has an extremely unconventional appearance. It is elegantly designed with a unique trapezoidal form, which is highlighted by a lengthy windshield that almost touches the front of the car. According to Verne, the peculiar form is the outcome of internal design. Numerous cameras and sensors are visible, including the periscope that protrudes from the roof and the sensors that peek out from the side windows, which may indicate that the car is capable of operating autonomously.
A 43-inch display that may play different forms of entertainment or offer information on the voyage will be placed in front of each passenger. There is a physical switch between the seats that passengers may use to start and stop the journey, but the vehicle is devoid of a steering wheel and pedals. The in-car systems are likewise operated by a touchscreen.
After it is deployed, a special app will allow users to call upon the robotaxi. Verne intends to grow the service beyond Croatia, into key cities in the UK, Germany, and the Middle East, as demand for it grows.
