Maruti recalls 1,492 units of Ertiga, Swift, Dzire and A-Star in India
Maruti Suzuki has recalled 1, 492 vehicles comprising the Ertiga, Swift, Dzire and the A-Star models manufactured between October 19 and 26, 2013 due to a possible problem in the steering column.
The largest Indian automaker said that the recall exercise is limited to these specific models manufactured during the aforementioned period and sold in Indian market, and the problem does not extend to the exported units. ÃÂ The company said that it will replace the defective steering column free of cost in these vehicles.
The company said it will inspect the steering column for the 1,492 vehicles âÂ" Ertiga: 306 units, Swift: 592 units, Dzire:581 units and A-Star: 13 units âÂ" and that the new steering column has already been dispatched to dealer workshops. Maruti Suzuki dealers will contact owners of the affected vehicles in the above range.
Recently, General Motor India had recalled 1.14 lakh units of its multi-purpose vehicle Chevrolet Tavera, manufactured between 2005 and 2013 to address emissions and specification issues. The company had also recalled 4,000 units of the diesel variant of its Sail model to address a potential engine issue. The large scale recall had sparked a government inquiry and sacking of several senior GM officials.
In February 2010, Maruti recalled about one lakh units of the 'A-Star' to replace a faulty fuel pump part.
