Maruti Suzuki Celerio based Toyota Vitz to go on sale in South Africa
Another new product will be added to the Toyota-Suzuki joint venture for South Africa. The Toyota Vitz will be used to market the current-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio in South Africa, where it is manufactured.
Similar in appearance to the Celerio offered in India is the Toyota Vitz. The hatchback has an identical grille and headlights, but for the Toyota logos. The 15-inch gloss black alloy wheels match the Indian model exactly.
The Toyota Vitz has a 1.0-litre gasoline engine that generates 67PS and 89 Nm of torque. Both a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT may be used with the engine.
Toyota appears to be reviving previous model names for the cars offered in South Africa and a few Middle Eastern markets with each new Suzuki-supplied product. The previous generation Baleno was introduced by Toyota as the Toyota Starlet in South Africa and the Toyota Glanza in India, which established the trend.
The former Toyota Vitz, a hatchback based on the Yaris and Toyota Aqua that was offered in places like Japan and others until a few years ago, is now being given the Celerio-based Vitz brand.
