Maruti Suzuki eVX will be made in India and exported across the world
The Maruti Suzuki eVX will be the company's first all-electric vehicle to hit the Indian market. According to recent rumours, Maruti aims to localize the eVX as much as possible, which should help make it considerably more inexpensive. The all-electric SUV will be produced at the carmaker's Gujarat facility and sold to multiple countries. The eVX is being developed in collaboration with Toyota, which will also have its own version available in 2025.
The eVX SUV will be introduced in India by the Indian carmaker in late 2024. This electric SUV will be around the same size as the Grand Vitara. Its test mule was recently seen on our shores, and while technical specifics are yet unknown, the concept included a 60 kWh battery pack with an estimated claimed range of 550 km. It will also have two motors, allowing it to be all-wheel drive.
That makes it larger than the Tata Nexon EV, which is a sub-4m vehicle. Given that the top-spec Nexon EV with the larger 40.5 kWh battery and 465km range is at almost Rs 20 lakh, the larger Maruti eVX is expected to be more expensive, costing roughly Rs 25 lakh, making it eligible to directly rival the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV or maybe even push closer to rival the BYD Att0 3 which sits just above Rs 30 lakh.
The electric SUV also gets aero-optimised alloy wheels, LED headlights and fog lamps, flush door handles, a roof spoiler, and body cladding. Meanwhile, Maruti had previously stated that the eVX will be 4,300mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,600mm in height. Plus, it will have a wheelbase of 2,700mm.
On the inside, the futuristic and minimalistic cabin layout shows the new direction of the interior design of Suzuki. The eVX gets a somewhat squared-shaped steering wheel, an UltraWide single-piece display, a floating centre console with an integrated rotary gear selector, touch-capacitive switches at the centre of the dashboard, new seats, and probably upholstery made from recycled and eco-friendly materials. In addition, the eVX comes with ambient lighting and a glass roof.
