Maruti Suzuki S-Cross 1.5-litre diesel not coming this year
Maruti Suzuki dealerships have already started taking bookings for the new Ciaz with 1.5-litre diesel. This new engine has been designed and developed in-house by the company. Post the launch of the Ciaz 1.5 diesel, Maruti will introduce the same in the new-generation Ertiga, launched in November last year and is available with the new 1.5-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel. And now we have learnt that Maruti Suzuki will not be launching the S-Cross with the 1.5-litre diesel engine this year.
In its present form, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is powered by the DDiS 200 1.3-litre diesel engine that makes 90PS of power at 4,000rpm and generates 200Nm at 1,750rpm. This engine is offered with a 5-speed manual transmission. Previously, the S-Cross was also offered with a 1.6-litre diesel that churned out 118PS and generated 320Nm. While this engine was more powerful and offered impressive performance on the highways, it was not received well by the Indian audiences. Both these engines are developed by Fiat. In fact, the 1.3-litre diesel has been offered in the Ertiga, Swift and also in the now defunct Chevrolet Enjoy MPV and Sail sedan. With the BS-VI emission norms coming into effect next year in April 2020, the new 1.5-litre diesel will eventually find its way in the S-Cross. The new 1.5-litre diesel is expected to make close to 100PS and a smidgen over 200Nm. Also, this engine will be offered with a new 6-speed manual transmission.
Last year, the S-Cross crossed the one lakh sales figure. It remains an important crossover for the company as it was the first vehicle to be sold in the country through the Nexa dealerships. The S-Cross has been posting decent sales numbers every month. The base variant of the S-Cross is priced at Rs 8.85 lakh while the top-end goes to Rs 11.48 lakh, making it the flagship offering for Nexa.
