Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire crosses the one million units sold milestone

Launched in 2008, the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire has earned a reputation for being a hot-seller in its segment in India. The entry-level sedan has now crossed the 10 lakh units sold mark.

The Swift Dzire currently comes with a choice of two engines â€" a 1.2-litre petrol mill and a 1.3-litre diesel unit. A major factor leading to the car's popularity is its class-leading fuel economy â€" the ARAI figures for the petrol and diesel variants are 20.85kmpl and 26.59kmpl (highest in the country for a diesel car), respectively.

The soaring sales figures bring the Maruti Swift Dzire into the list of top five bestselling passenger vehicles in the country â€" all of which are Marut Suzuki cars. The top spot is bagged by the Alto (2.83 million units), followed by its now discontinued predecessor, the Maruti 800 (2.67 million) and the Omni (1.68 million) van. The 15-year old WagonR still continues to have a strong foothold in the market with a cumulative sales figure of 1.68 million units.

Maruti Suzuki is celebrating the milestone this entire month with a campaign called 'The sweets are on us'. Current owners of the Swift Dzire will be receiving edible goodies in the mail while malls across the country will have edible art installations put up by the carmaker.

Recently, a Swift Dzire diesel variant with automatic manual transmission was spied testing â€" this variant is expected to be on the roads around the festive season this year. Looks like the Dzire has a firm grip on the Indian customer, in spite of the new contenders in the market from Tata and Ford.
