Mercedes-AMG has pulled the wraps off the new CLE 53 4Matic+ Coupe, blending the agility of the C-Class with the stature of the E-Class. This performance-oriented two-door car sports a six-pot engine paired with an electric gas turbocharger and mild-hybrid functionality along with a host AMG-specific features.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe: DesignIn terms of design, the AMG CLE 53 Coupe bears a classic long hood, a sloping windshield, and an elongated roof leading to a short and sporty rear. It also integrated AMG-specific elements, such as an A-shaped radiator grille and angular headlights. Meanwhile, the new front bumper facilitates high air flow. Mercedes also offers optional packages, namely AMG Optics and Night packages, for further customisation.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe: Interior
On the inside, the cabin is draped in Artico man-made leather/Microcut black microfiber paired with AMG-specific graphics and red contrasting topstitching. Additionally, it gets a 12.3-inch driver display, an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and dynamic ambient lighting. Nappa leather upholstery with an embossed AMG crest on the front headrests and the AMG performance seats with enhanced seat bolsters are also available.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe: Equipment and SpecificationsThe brand has equipped the coupe with an AMG Dynamic Select with five driving modes, AMG 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system, and AMG Ride Control chassis, with adaptable damping and three selectable levels, three-stage AMG speed-sensitive steering, and standard rear-axle steering. Mercedes also offers AMG Dynamic Plus optional package comprising Race driving programme and active engine mounts.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe: Performance
The 3.0-litre, inline six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged engine in the CLE 53 4MATIC+ generates 449PS and 560Nm of torque (overboost taking that to 600Nm for 12 seconds). Notably, the integrated starter generator (ISG) supplements an extra 23 hp and 205Nm of torque. It can reach 100kmph from a standstill in just 4.2 seconds. Plus, the coupe provides an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph, which can be unlocked to 270kmph as an optional extra. Paired with this motor is an AMG Speedshift TCT 9G automatic transmission.
Further, it gets an exhaust gas turbocharger and an electric additional compressor, which helps to optimise combustion and increases boost pressure, while the ISG improves efficiency, functioning as a generator and handling hybrid functions, such as short-term boosting, recuperation, and the engine start/stop function.
