Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance: Powertrain and Mechanics

The powertrain comprises a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 up front that produces 611PS and 850Nm of torque on its own, driving all four wheels via a 9-speed automated transmission. An electric engine in the back may deliver up to 20PS and 320Nm of torque to the rear axle via its own two-speed transmission. The car makes a total of 1,420Nm of torque.

According to Mercedes, the GT 63 S E Performance is the fastest "series production" AMG car to date, with a timing of 2.8 seconds from 0 to 100 kmph. The max speed is listed at 320 kmph.

As the range's flagship, it has a variety of performance-oriented amenities as standard. These include the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with semi-active roll stabilization and rear axle steering, the most powerful ceramic composite brakes available, and a wide range of eight driving modes accessible via the AMG Dynamic Select switch. The modes available include Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Sport+, Race, and Individual settings.

The 400-volt, 6.1-kWh battery packâ€"which sits above the back axle to balance weightâ€"uses an innovative cooling system that feeds a non-conductive fluid to each battery cell individually, rather than using air or another indirect cooling approach.

The E Performance receives hybrid-specific displays on the MBUX infotainment system, as does the four-door GT stablemate.
