Mercedes Benz A-class receives plug-in hybrid powertrain as part of facelift
The new Mercedes A-Class hatchback and sedan have been unveiled in international markets and along with new features and moderate facelifts, both cars also receive electrified petrol powertrains.
The exterior of the 2023 A-Class sedan has been updated with new LED headlights and DRLs that are flush with the shark-nose grille instead of being on either side of it. A redesigned star pattern and a thinner chrome trim piece with an enlarged Mercedes insignia are featured on the grille. Instead of the original circular portion, the air dam now has a sportier trapezoidal shape lower down.
With the installation of new plug-in hybrid powertrains, the A-Class versions sold abroad have undergone significant alterations. The 163PS 1.3-liter petrol and 150PS 2-litre diesel engines in the India-spec sedan are anticipated to remain the same, but the petrol engine now features a mild-hybrid system with a 10PS e-motor producing 14Nm.
The A-Class sedan has a number of new amenities inside, but it still mostly resembles its predecessor. These include a driver fingerprint sensor, recycled-material standard comfort seats with lumbar support, and an updated telemetry system. The A-Class continues to include ambient lighting, two 10.25-inch screens for the driver's instruments and infotainment, and "Hey, Mercedes" voice commands.
For the lane-keeping assist feature, Active Steering Control is now a part of the driver aid functions. The new ADAS technology, together with the most recent Parking Package, Mirror Package, and new 360-degree camera, should be included in the India-spec vehicle.
The Mercedes-Benz A-class is the entry-level Merc in India and is currently priced at Rs 42 lakh.
