Mercedes-Benz had previewed its Concept EQA compact electric vehicle (EV) just ahead of the International Motor Show 2017 in Frankfurt, Germany recently. The Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA is based on the Concept EQ electric vehicle platform which was showcased at the Paris Motor Show 2016. Measuring similar to the current generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class but slightly wider, the styling is the standout feature on the Concept EQA EV. A virtual grille and laser fibres light up the car from all directions and lend it the unique look. With the Mercedes-Benz EQC electric crossover expected to launch by 2019 before the EQA, here's a look at this sleek compact EV to tide you over until then:

The Concept EQA has much smoother lines than the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQC which is slated to hit the streets in 2019.

The EQA gets a virtual radiator grille that lights up via laser fibres to reveal the three-pointed star and either a horizontal wing or a Panamericana grille to indicate it is in Sport or Sport Plus mode, respectively.

Concept EQA is powered by an electric motor on each axle, giving it permanent four-wheel drive. The motors combine to produce 271PS / 498Nm with a 0 to 100 kmph in under 5 seconds.

The two electric motors are powered by a lithium-ion battery with modular pouch cells giving the Concept EQA a range of 400km. Rapid charging it for 10 minutes will let the EV drive for 100km.

While the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA has been showcased as a two-door hatchback, it could be offered in four-door variants as well.
