Mercedes-Benz EQA vs GLA: What is different?

About a few years ago, the GLA received an all-electric version, called the EQA and this all-electric crossover SUV has just arrived in India. Mercedes-Benz showcased the GLA in the market at the 2020 Auto Expo and was launched later in the year. And the updated model came at the beginning of this year. Since both GLA and EQA are now on sale in India, we find out if they are any different.

Mercedes-Benz EQA vs GLA: Dimensions

The EQA measures 4,463mm in length, 1,834mm in width, and 1,624mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,729mm. On the other hand, the GLA is 4,412mm long, 1,834mm wide, and 1,616mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,729mm. Meanwhile, the EQA has a cargo capacity of 340 litres, while the GLA's boot capacity stands at 427 litres.

Mercedes-Benz EQA vs GLA: Powertrain

The EQA 250+ gets a 70.5kWh battery pack paired with a single motor that delivers 190PS and 385Nm of torque. It has a range of 560km, as per WLTP. In terms of performance, the EQA can go to 100kmph from stationary in 8.6 seconds and provides a top speed of 160kmph. The SUV supports up to 100kW DC fast charging, and is claimed to charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in about 32 minutes. Not to mention, it also supports up to 22kW AC fast charging.

The GLA gets a 1.3-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine producing 163PS and 250Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder, turbo-diesel unit 190PS and 400Nm of torque. There is now 48V mild-hybrid assistance system across the board. Transmission options include a seven-speed and an eight-speed automatic units. The range-topping GLA 220d 4Matic comes equipped with, as the name suggests, an all-wheel-drive system.

The EQA boasts a host of features, such as coloured heads-up display, augmented reality navigation, 360deg camera, a 12-speaker Burmester sound system, a 10.25-inch driver display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest MBUX iteration, new AMG steering wheel, dual-zone climate controls, a wireless charging pad, intelligent recuperation function, active parking assist, adaptive high-beam assist, active steering assist, multicolour ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control, speed limit assist, emergency brake assist, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and anti-theft system, among others.

The recently updated GLA features upgraded equipment, such as new iteration of MBUX, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch driver display, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless charging pad, illuminated USB ports, LED headlights with high beam assist, a panoramic sunroof, seven airbags, powered front seats, ESP, Pre Safe, OTA updates, powered tailgate, and dual-zone temperature control, and charcoal, pollen, and HEPA filters; among others.

Mercedes-Benz EQA vs GLA: Trims & prices

Although the EQA is available in several trims in some international markets, India gets only one EQA 250+ trim. In contrast, the GLA facelift comes in three trim levels: GLA 200, GLA 220d 4Matic, and GLA 220d 4Matic AMG Line. They cost Rs Rs 51.75 lakh, Rs 56 lakh, and Rs 58.15 lakh (all ex-showroom), respectively.
