MG Motor India to launch five new cars and EVs; plans to set up second plant in Gujarat
MG Motor India has announced its new five-year roadmap for India. As a part of this, it will invest about Rs 5,000 crore, set up a second manufacturing facility, launch up to five new vehicles, and set up a battery assembling unit. In a statement released by carmaker stated that the new strategy intends to localise its business operations for sustainable growth and create a meaningful impact on the society.
MG Motor India plans
To begin with, the automaker aims to launch up to five new cars, mainly electric vehicles (EVs) as a part of its five-year roadmap. To accelerate adoption of EVs, MG Motor India will start local manufacturing of various EV components, especially assembling EV battery packs in Gujarat. With this, it expects EVs to account for 65 to 75 per cent of its overall India sales by 2028.
Further, the brand intends to build a new manufacturing plant in Gujarat, which will boost its production capacity from 1,20,000 units to 3,00,000 units. Above all, it will also invest in advanced and clean technologies, such as hydrogen fuel cells and EV cell manufacturing.
On top of these plans, the company wants to bring the latest technology, increase Indian shareholding in the next four years, improving local sourcing of components and manufacturing across its operations by 2028,
Apart from that, under its MG Nurture program, MG Motor India aims to train 1,00,000 students in the future technologies related to automobiles, such as EV, ADAS, and connected car systems. Meanwhile, it also intends to have 20,000 employees by 2028.
MG Motor India upcoming launches
The British automaker showcased a range of new offerings at the Auto Expo 2023, including electric vehicles (EVs). The list of products was on display at MG Motor India stall are namely the Euniq 7 fuel-cell MPV, MG 5 EV estate car, MG 4 EV, eHS PHEV, eMG 6 hybrid, Marvel R, and eRX5. Most of these models are likely to make their way to India, especially EVs in the coming years.
