MG Motor India tease upcoming Cloud EV
MG Motor India has teased an upcoming CUV, which we anticipate would be the Cloud EV. The Cloud EV was showcased at the Indonesia Auto Show under the Wuling badge but in India, the car will come with the MG logo and possibly a different name.
MG will market the upcoming Cloud EV as a Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) and we could see it hit the shelves this festive season. Just like the Wuling Air EV is sold as the Comet EV in the Indian market, we think MG would adopt a different name for the Cloud EV.
The Cloud EV measures 4295mm in length, 1850mm in width, 1652mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2700mm. The exterior of the car looks more MPV rather than SUV. The external design is very minimalist. A very smooth surface with barely any creases and flat door handles. The car also appears to have a full panoramic sunroof. The Cloud will have all LED headlights with an LED light bar linking the headlamp units on the nose and a light bar at the rear as well.
Globally, the Cloud EV uses a 50.6 kWh battery pack that is good enough for a claimed range of 460km. Using a DC fast charger, it can be juiced up from 30 to 100 percent in just half an hour. The front-mounted electric motor produces 136PS and 200Nm of torque. There is also a smaller battery pack with a capacity of  37.9kWh.
On the inside, it features a massive 15.6 TFT infotainment system and an 8.8-inch digital driver display. Other features include a 6-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, ambient lighting, leather-wrapped steering wheel, flat-folding rear seats, 4 airbags, a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera and a suite of ADAS tech.
We expect the prices of the new Could EV to range between Rs 18 lakh to 22 lakh. However, upon launch, it will not have any direct rival in the country.
