MG Motor India to offer CAAP connectivity tech with the Astor Crossover
Ever since MG Motor India stepped into the Indian automotive market, their USP has been the impressive suite of connected tech and features. Both the Hector and the Gloster come loaded with connected tech and segment-leading features. With the upcoming mid-size crossover that is speculated to be called 'Astor', MG is adding another layer of industry-leading connectivity features and it's called CAAP.
CAAP stands for 'Car As A Platform' and in the teaser, MG has boasted the use of artificial intelligence, blockchain, machine learning and much more. MG Astor will be the first car from MG to get CAAP and it will filter down to the rest of the range like the Hector, Hector Plus and Gloster. MG is essentially trying to build software that can take care of various in-car services and subscriptions in the areas of utility, entertainment, security, consumer payment and more.
Reliance Jio will be the prime partner of the CAAP project in India and will provide the 4G network. As part of the project, MG Motor will also provide opportunities to developers to develop applications, services and various subscription models. Talking more about the MG Astor, it will be the ICE counterpart of the ZS EV and MG is said to launch it later this year. Showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, the Astor will boast some design changes and will come powered with both naturally-aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines. MG Astor will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.
