Motopeds put horsepower in your mountain bike
Kickstarter is a wonderful thing, but this is the first auto-related item we've found on it that we can totally get behind. Or astride. The Motoped, which is basically, a motorised mountain bike. In fact, it actually looks more like a very trim dirt bike.
Motopeds are powered by 50-155cc Honda XR50/CRF50 engines and swingarms in a custom frame with downhill mountain bike-like suspension and brake assemblies. They get 26-inch front and 24-inch rear wheels. The swingarm is fitted with the chain-driving pedals.
The Motoped is a build-it-yourself task. The company supplies certain parts listed with many combinations and options subject to the price range. Parts required include a Honda XR50/pitbike 50 - 150cc motor, carburettor and throttle, gas tank and a few other parts for the motorcycle, and forks, brakes, rims, tires, spokes, cranks, and pedals for the mountain bike. Custom parts such as the frame, swing arm, jack shaft, bottom bracket, rear hub, etc. are what make up the 'Motoped Parts Kit'. The kit costs $970. What you end up with is a 34-42kmpl mountain bike. It won't be fast, but it'll certainly be quicker than you on the pedals alone. Technically, a 16-year old could get a license to ride it, but we're unsure how it could be registered in India.
There's definitely no worrying about the space it takes on road or in parking. You can pedal it for as long as you want, and if you're tired or just fed-up, u can ride it around with some swag. Oh, and Motopeds ship internationally. We apologise to your families in advance.
