New BMW M 1000 XR launched in India at Rs 45 lakh

German motorcycle major BMW Motorrad has introduced the new M 1000 XR in India at Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom). Offered as a completely built unit (CBU), this is the third dedicated M model after the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R. Notably, for the India-spec model, BMW offers the M Competition package as standard. The M 1000 XR claimed to be the most potent crossover motorcycle ever, featuring a more powerful engine, a host of M components, lightweight parts, advanced electronics, and the signature M livery.

BMW M 1000 XR: Styling

While the M 1000 XR is reminiscent of the S 1000 XR, it boasts a more aggressive and sportier styling. It features new M winglets to improve high-speed stability, a smoked windscreen, split LED headlights, daytime running lights, which resemble the flagship BMW model, and bar-end mirrors, and two new paint schemes, Blackstorm Metallic and Light White (M Motorsport colour scheme).

The M Competition package comprises numerous M-specific components in carbon fibre, such as wheels, a rear wheel cover with an integrated chain guard, side panels, a front wheel cover, inner cover, ignition cover, and MGPS Lap Triger (unlock code). It also includes adjustable foot pegs for both the rider and pillion. Although the M 1000 XR weighs 223kg (DIN empty), the M Competition package reduces 3kg from its weight.

BMW M 1000 XR: Features & specifications

BMW has bestowed the M 1000 XR with a titanium silencer featuring a carbon fibre cap, five riding modes (Race, Road, Rain, Dynamic, and Race Pro 1-3), a bi-directional quickshifter, new-gen traction control, TPMS, wheelie control, heated grips, adaptive headlights, shift assistant pro, pit lane limiter, launch control, ABS, slide control, USB charging socket, automatic hill start control, and dynamic brake control.

The seat height of the M 1000 XR stands at 850mm, which can be adjusted with the M Competition package to either 820mm or 870mm.

The suspension setup includes fully adjustable 45mm upside-down front forks and a monoshock. Then, there are dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 265mm disc at the rear. The wheels are wrapped in 120/70 ZR17 front and 200/55 ZR17 rear tyres.

BMW M 1000 XR: Engine and Performance

The M 1000 XR gets a 999cc, inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces an 201PS (31PS more than the S 1000 XR) at 12,750rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,000rpm, with a rev limit of 14,600rpm. Mated to this motor is a six-speed gearbox.

Not to mention, BMW has tweaked the gear ratios and equipped it with a larger 47 teeth sprocket as opposed to the 45 teeth unit on the S 1000 XR. This results in quicker acceleration, allowing the M 1000 XR to reach 100kmph from a standstill in just 3.2 seconds and 200kmph in 7.4 seconds. The motorcycle provides a top speed of 280kmph.
