New BMW Vision Neue Klasse X concept breaks cover

BMW has pulled the wraps off the new Vision Neue Klasse X concept. This electric SUV offers a glimpse into the future of the brand's SUVs, also called Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs). Notably, it is set to go into series production at Plant Debrecen in Hungary by 2025. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X combines modern design, technology, sustainability, and philosophy inspired by the esteemed Neue Klasse lineage. That being said, the carmaker had revealed the Vision Neue Kasse concept â€" an all-electric saloon â€" last year. While this embodies the future electric 3 Series, the Vision Neue Klasse X shows how the future X3 could look like.

BMW Vision Neue Klasse X: Design

One of the standout features of the Vision Neue Klasse X is its design language, which incorporates a new grille, which BMW describes, reimagined as a three-dimensional sculpture with vertically aligned and backlit contours. There are also distinctive front and rear bumpers, V-shaped garnish, 3D printed parts, and a 50mm extended rear spoiler for enhanced aerodynamic efficiency. With dimensions measuring 4,655mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,605mm in height, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X offers promises spacious interior. Meanwhile, it features Coral Silver paint job.

Aerodynamic design of the Vision Neue Klasse X contribute to its efficiency. The overall drag has been reduced by 20 per cent compared to current models, whereas new tyre designs and a specialised brake system for EVs help increase overall vehicle efficiency by up to 25 per cent.

BMW Vision Neue Klasse X: Interior

On the inside, the Vision Neue Klasse X boasts a layout similar to the Vision Neue Klasse concept, featuring minimalist, sustainable, and vivid interior. There is a large single screen in the centre of the dashboard, a new centre console, new gear selector design, and physical buttons for frequently used functions enhance the user experience. The electric SUV concept also features connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), wireless Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates, and advanced driver assistance systems, such as Hands-On Detection (HOD) steering wheel, Lane Keeping Assist 2, and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2).

The Vision Neue Klasse X utilises plant- and mineral-based, and petroleum-free surface materials in its interior, along with maritime plastics sourced from discarded fishing nets. Plus, mono-material construction and improved recyclability further reduce the vehicle's environmental footprint.

BMW Vision Neue Klasse X: Powertrain

The Neue Klasse uses the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology, taking efficiency a step further. This advancement includes improved e-drive units and new round lithium-ion battery cells with a volumetric energy density of over 20 per cent higher than previous prismatic cells. Additionally, the transition to an 800-volt system enhances charging speed by up to 30 per cent, enabling a 300km range in just ten minutes. Not only that, this sixth generation of BMW eDrive also offers up to 30 per cent more range.
