New-gen 2025 BMW X3 makes global debut
BMW has taken the wraps off the all-new X3. The fourth generation model brings revolutionary design changes inside and out, updated powertrains, fresh colours, and additional features. The production of the new X3 will take place at the BMWÂ Group Plant Spartanburg in the USA and Plant Rosslyn in South Africa. At first, the new-gen X3 will go on sale in Europe and the USA by the fourth quarter of 2024, followed by other international markets starting from January 2025. The India launch could also happen next year.
The headline update of the new X3 is the new design language, which BMW says offers "an almost monolithic overall appearance with distinctive BMWÂ X model proportions". The SUV gets just a few cuts and creases to produce a clearly structured exterior. Its upright front end features a newly designed grille with an optional 'BMWÂ Iconic Glow' lights and new L-shaped daytime driving lights. "Bold side skirts and a roofline extending deep into the rear end are the distinguishing features of the new model's sporty silhouette", says the brand. At the back, the X3 boasts new T-shaped lights. Additionally, every trim, except for the X3Â M50Â xDrive, now get the exhaust tailpipes integrated out of sight in the rear apron.
The new X3 is 34mm longer at 4,755mm, 29mm wider at 1,920mm but is 25mm shorter to 1,660mm compared to the previous generation mode. It also has wider tracks.
BMW offers a choice of one solid and eight metallic colours for the new X3, including the fresh Dune Grey metallic paint job. Notably, models made at the USA facility will also be available with BMWÂ Individual paint finishes, including two matte shimmering Frozen options and over 15 BMWÂ Individual special paint finishes.
As standard, the new X3 gets 18-inch wheels or a set of 19-inch with 30e xDrive. There is also an option of either 20-inch or 21-inch designs, while the M Spor Package offers 19-inch M light-alloy wheels.
2025 BMW X3: InteriorInside, the X3 features a completely overhauled layout. It gets a new BMW Interaction Bar (wraparound light bars on the dashboard, doors, and centre console) similar to its elder siblings, a new gear selector and wireless charging tray, BMW Curved Display setup with OS 9, new Econeer trim made from recycled PET. A new optional 'Luxury' dashboard trim made from recycled polyester with knitted texture has made its debut with the new X3.
In addition, the SUV now comes equipped with newly designed electrically adjustable and heated sport seats upholstered in Econeer and surfaces and cushioning made from another material. Also on offer are Veganza and BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery options. The X3 has a boot space of 570 litres that can be increased to a maximum 1,700 litres or from 460 to 1,600 litres in the 30e xDrive.
2025 BMW X3: Powertrain
BMW claims that the X3Â M50Â xDrive is powered by "the most powerful six-cylinder in-line petrol engine yet fitted in an M Performance model". This 3.0-litre, twin-turbo, six-cylinder engine, now paired with 48V mild hybrid system, generates 398PS and is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. With this, it can reach 100kmph (62Â mph) from a standstill in 4.6Â seconds.
As standard, the X3 M50 xDrive gets MÂ Sport suspension with variable sport steering, MÂ Sport brakes, 20-inch MÂ light-alloy wheels, and an MÂ Sport differential integrated into the rear axle. Whereas, the adaptive MÂ suspension with electronically controlled dampers is optional.
All petrol and diesel engines now boast 48V mild hybrid assistance and eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive as standard. As claimed, the new X3 features major improvements in efficiency and performance.
The X3 20xDrive with its 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine delivers 208PS, while the X3 20d xDrive gets the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel makes 197PS. BMW will add a six-cylinder diesel unit to the line-up in summer 2025.
2025 BMW X3: Upgrades & standard equipment
According to the carmaker, tweaks to the kinematic and elastokinematic properties of the double-joint spring strut front axle and five-link rear axle have increased precision while turning into corners, while the 19Â per cent increase in the caster offset of the steering axle is another benefit for straight-line stability. Near-actuator wheel slip limitation and the integrated braking system likewise form part of the standard package of chassis technology.
The new X3 offers a more driver assistance features as standard and optional. As standard, it boasts front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning and Speed Limit Info, and Driving Assistant including Lane Change Warning and manual Speed Limit Assist. The Parking Assistant package is also standard.
Other new standard features include three-zone temperature control, acoustic glazing, comfort access, powered tailgate, ORVM with auto-fold, an alarm system, BMW Live Cockpit Plus with the cloud-based BMWÂ Maps navigation system, ambient lighting featuring a Welcome and Goodbye Animations, wireless charging pad, Bluetooth connectivity, four USB-C ports, and two 12V power sockets.
