New Hyundai Ioniq 5 India debut slated for 20 December
South Korean automaker Hyundai has set the stage to unveil the electric Ioniq 5 in India on 20 December, 2022. The brand will also open its order books for the EV on the same day. Notably, the Ioniq 5 will be locally assembled in the country, thus it can undercut all rivals, especially the Kia EV6.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Design
The Ioniq 5 is the brand's first dedicated EV based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It shares this EV-only architecture with the Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60. The carmaker says that the exterior design of the electric crossover SUV draws inspiration from its first-ever mass-market car, the Pony. Square-shaped headlights and taillights, sharp cuts and creases, and unique wheels dominate the design of the Ioniq 5.

The highlights of the cabin are minimalist customisable cabin and environmentally friendly upholstery. It features powered front and rear seats with memory function and a moveable centre console. Hyundai has used sustainable and recycled materials to make fabric. Other cabin features include two 12.25-inch screens, a Bose sound system, dual-zone temperature control, and a moonroof, among others. The India-spec model is likely to carry the same features.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Specifications
The Ioniq 5 gets two battery packs: Standard Range 58kWh and Long Range 77.6kWh linked to either a rear-wheel or all-wheel drive setup. The EV is equipped with 800V charging technology, thus charging it from 10-80 per cent takes just 18 minutes with a 350kW charger. Meanwhile, Hyundai is expected to offer both battery pack options in India.
