New Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance is the most potent SL ever
Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new SL 63 S E Performance, representing the apex of the SL series, with a blend of power and innovation. Notably, the plug-in hybrid powertrain makes it the most potent SL model to date and marks the fifth series integrating the AMG-specific E Performance hybrid technology.
The crux of this SL is a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine combined with the AMG Electric Drive Unit, generating a staggering system output of 816PS and a maximum torque of up to 1,420Nm.
The incorporation of an electric drive unit at the rear axle, alongside the V8 bi-turbo engine at the front axle, results in an acceleration of zero to 100kmph in just 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 317kmph. Systems such as the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with semi-active roll stabilisation, active rear-axle steering, and AMG Performance fully variable all-wheel-drive system are also on offer.
Further, the SL 63's hybrid system incorporates an AMG High-Performance battery, inspired by technologies from Formula 1 hybrid racing cars, offering a capacity of 6.1kWh and enabling approximately 13km of purely electric travel. Mercedes-AMG has given it eight driving modes: Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Smoothness, Sport, Sport Plus, Race and Individual.
