New Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB launched; prices start at Rs 78.50 lakh

German automaker Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-new sixth generation E-Class Long Wheelbase in India with prices starting at Rs 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Unveiled in April 2023, the E-Class features a fresh design, a tech-focused interior, and updated engine options. In India, for the first time, Mercedes has introduced the E-Class E450 4Matic, the most powerful version yet. Plus, the India is the first and only (right-hand drive) market to get the E-Class LWB.

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Design & Colours

Built on the brand's Modular Rear Architecture (MRA), the new E-Class features an improvement in aerodynamics and has larger dimensions. It keeps the classy character with a more modern and distinct touch, such as a wider grille with illuminated surrounds, sleeker headlights, new daytime driving lights, a longer bonnet, flush door handles, split taillights with triangular elements, and a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels. For the first time, the E-Class boasts a rear-wheel steering system.

Mercedes offers five paint jobs with the new E-Class, namely Graphite Grey, Polar White, Obsidian Black, High Tech Silver, and a new Nautic Blue.

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Interior & Features

Inside, the new E-Class has a plush and minimalist cabin inspired by the EQS. The dashboard features small air-con vents with digital control system, and a large MBUX Superscreen, with a floating digital driver display. The MBUX comprises a 12.3-inch instrument panel, 14.4-inch central information hub, and a 12.3-inch co-driver display.

The rear bench seat comes with adjustable headrests and cushions. The seat can be reclined up to 36-degree, while the under-thigh support is expandable to up to 40mm. It also has some storage space and a wireless charging pad. Then, there are rear sunblinds and power-closing function for the doors.

Key features include a Burmester 4D surround sound system, four-zone temperature control, a digital key, and AI-driven routines for automatic AC and heating settings, 360deg camera, powered seats with memory function, dashboard camera to attend meeting (with support to the Webex and Zoom apps) and click pictures, 64-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, eight airbags, USB Type-C charging ports, wireless charging pad (front), and Level 4 autonomy ready with an optional driverless valet parking feature, available in regions where regulations permit, for example, Germany.

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Engine Specifications

The new E-Class is powered by mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. However, the India-spec model is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with 197PS/320Nm and 200PS/440Nm, respectively. There is also a new 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit that generates 381PS. These engines offer slightly more combined output because of an electric boost. All engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
