New Royal Enfield Himalayan unveiled at EICMA 2023; pre-bookings open today
The new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has made its global debut at EICMA 2023. In an interesting twist, the brand also unveiled a new electric Himalayan concept currently undergoing testing in the Himalayas. Pre-bookings for the adventure motorcycle opened today across the globe, including in India, in advance of its official India launch slated for 24 November, 2023. Royal Enfield has announced that the new Himalayan 450 will be showcased at its upcoming MotoVerse event in Goa later this month.
New Royal Enfield Himalayan 450: Variants and ColoursRoyal Enfield will offer the new Himalayan in three variants: Base, Pass, and Summit, available in five colours - Kaza Brown, Slate Poppy Blue, Slate Himalayan Salt, Kamet White, and Hanle Black.
New Royal Enfield Himalayan 450: Powertrain
The new Himalayan is powered by a newly developed 452cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine called the "Sherpa 450," producing 40.02PS at 8,000rpm and 40Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. This engine is paired with a new six-speed gearbox.
Its close competitors, the KTM 390 Adventure, produce 43.5PS at 9,000rpm and 37Nm of torque at 7,000rpm, while the 2024 BMW G 310 GS delivers 34PS at 9,250rpm and 28Nm at 7,500rpm.
New Royal Enfield Himalayan 450: Features and Specifications
The upcoming Himalayan 450 is equipped with a four-inch colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, all-LED lighting, ride-by-wire technology, dual-channel and switchable ABS, a USB Type-C port, a slip-and-assist clutch, three ride modes, and Google Maps support.
The adventure bike also features 43mm Showa upside-down front forks, a linkage-type rear monoshock, a 320mm front disc with a dual-piston calliper, a 270mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper, a 90/90 21-section front tire, and a 140/80 R17-section rear tire from CEAT. The new Himalayan 450 has a weight of 196kg (kerb weight with 90 per cent fuel and oil) and a fuel tank capacity of 17 litres. It offers a ground clearance of 230mm with 200mm of wheel travel at both ends.
New Royal Enfield Himalayan: Price and rivals
The starting price for the new Himalayan is expected to be around Rs 2.50 lakh. When launched, it will compete against the KTM 390 Adventure with spoke wheels and the 2024 BMW G 310 GS, which are priced at Rs 3.61 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 3.30 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.
