New Skoda Kodiaq scores 5-stars at Euro NCAP crash test
The new Skoda Kodiaq will be launched in India next year and the good news is that the car underwent its Euro NCAP crash testing and came out with a remarkable 5-stars. In terms of adult occupant protection, the second-generation Kodiaq received scores of 89 percent and 83 percent for child occupants.
The tested car was a left-hand drive model. Safety features onboard included 10 airbags, seat belt reminders with pretensioners for all seats, ISOFIX mounts on the front passenger and rear seats, and a list of ADAS tech.
In the frontal impact crash, the Kodiaq scored 11.7 out of 16 points. Driver and passenger scored between Good and Adequate protection. All vital body parts were well protected in the side barrier and pole impact tests, and the SUV received the highest possible score in this section of the evaluation.
For 6-year and 10-year-old protection in the rear seat, the car scored 23.9 out of a total of 24. Points were only deducted because the neck area of the 10-year-old dummy was rated as Adequate. Also, note that the Kodiaq does not come with a Child Presence Detection system.
In the vulnerable road users test, the car scored 28.6 out of 36 points. In testing how the AEB system responded to cyclists, including "dooring," which is when a door is abruptly opened in the path of a bike arriving from behind, the system's response to pedestrians was sufficient and good. It only got a rating of Marginal in the car reversing into an adult or child and the child running from behind parked vehicles in the night time.
Finally, in the safety assist system tests, the car scored 14.2 out of 18. The Kodia scored Good in the AEB Car-to-Car and Lane Support test and Adequate in the Speed Assistance test but only managed a Marginal in Occupant Status Monitoring.
