New Triumph Speed 400 first batch rolls out of Bajaj Chakan 2 plant

Bajaj Auto Ltd. has announced the rollout of the first-ever locally manufactured batch of the new Triumph Speed 400 from its new Chakan 2 facility in Pune, Maharashtra. This new plant has a production capacity of 25,000 units and will manufacture both Triumph and KTM motorcycles. Bajaj has initially allocated 5,000 units to Triumph, whereas it has set aside the rest 20,000 units for KTM. However, the bike maker can allocate more units to Triumph if required.

The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X have received a staggering response since their global debut in London, United Kingdom, on 27 June, 2023. In fact, the Speed 400 has even garnered 10,000 reservations withing a day of its bookings commencement. Triumph has also stated that prospective customers will be able to take a close-up look of the Speed 400 at Triumph dealerships and even get a test ride.

Bajaj Auto has already revealed that it will expand the Triumph's footprint in India. The two-wheeler manufacturer is likely to set up about 100 new Triumph showrooms across the country by March 2024.

Triumph Speed 400 Price

While the introductory price of the Triumph Speed 400 was Rs 2.23 lakh (ex-showroom), it now comes with an attractive price of Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom). For reference, the KTM 390 Duke costs Rs 2.97 lakh, BMW G 310 R comes with a price tag of Rs 2.85 lakh, the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 is priced between Rs 1.50 lakh and Rs 1.75 lakh, and the prices of the all-new Harley-Davidson range between Rs 2.29 lakh and Rs 2.69 lakh (all ex-showroom).

Triumph Speed 400 Powertrain

While Triumph has revealed prices for the Speed 400, it will announce the cost of the Scrambler 400X sometime in October this year. It is to be noted that both motorcycles feature the same engine and gearbox â€" a 398.15cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC motor producing 40PS at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. The motor comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.

Triumph Speed 400 Features and Specs

The feature-list on the Speed 400 includes traction control, ride-by-wire, dual-channel ABS, and all-LED lights. Also on offer is a new semi-digital instrument console, comprising a reasonably large analogue speedometer and an LCD screen. Other specs are USD front a rear monoshock, a 300mm single front disc with four-piston calliper, and a 230mm single rear disc brake. Meanwhile, the Speed 400 has a seat height of 790mm.
