Nissan, Ford and Daimler join forces for fuel cell tech
Daimler, Ford and Nissan have announced collaboration on developing fuel cell systems which will advance work on providing hydrogen vehicles at affordable costs. The first world car from this alliance is expected by 2017. Every company will invest equal amount of money into the venture. Out of the three companies involved, Daimler is more famous for promoting its F-Cell cars for various testing programs. Each of the companies involved will be sharing the fuel cell system, fuel cell stack and other FCEV components and it is likely that looks of each car will be different.
It may be recalled that a few days back, Toyota and BMW had announced that they have also entered into a joint venture pertaining to fuel cell vehicles. Fuel cell vehicles are perceived as being the future of automobiles with such cars emitting only water as a bi-product. These cars produce electricity from oxygen and hydrogen and this energy powers the car's electric motors to provide propelling force.
"Working together will significantly help speed this technology to market at a more affordable cost to our customers," said Raj Nair, group vice president, global product development, Ford Motor Company. "We will all benefit from this relationship as the resulting solution will be better than any one company working alone."
