Over 10,000 units of the Lamborghini Aventador have now been made
Lamborgini has now made over 10,000 units of its flagship V12-powered hypercar, the Lamborghini Aventador. This is also more than double the production run of its predecessor, the Murcielago, over a similar time period. Having been introduced in 2011, the Aventador came with the LP700-4 nomenclature. It has since been constantly evolved to now be the third best-selling Lamborghini of all time, behind the Huracan and Urus. However, the Urus only took two years to cross the 10,000-unit mark.
Lamborghini says that the Aventador's initial technological superiority has made it so successful. It features a carbon-fibre monocoque shell that also incorporates the cockpit, roof and floor. The 6.5-litre V12 initially produced 700PS and was capable of 0 to 100 kmph in 2.9s and a 350 kmph top-speed. Other highlights are the ISR automated manual transmission and the push-rod suspension system.
The Aventador has remained relevant with the constant updates Lamborghini has given the supercar over the years. In 2012, Lamborghini introduced the Aventador Roadster with its lightweight carbon roof mechanism and the Aventador J, a road-legal one-off that dispensed with the roof and windscreen. Later in 2016, the Aventador S was introduced with a 40PS power bump, taking the output to 740PS. Also new were the active suspension, a four-wheel steering system, and the new EGO driving modes, with traction, steering, and suspension settings configurable in the Strada, Sport and Corsa settings.
The final big update for the Aventador came with the SVJ in 2018. This version bumped power up to 770PS and 720 Nm which gets the car from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.8s and onto a top speed of 350 kmph. Work has also been done to improve the Aventador's chassis. This has been done through stiffer anti-roll bars, firmer magnetic dampers and a reworked rear-wheel steering system. All of these changes come together for the Aventador SVJ to be the fastest road-going supercar around the Nurburgring. It beat the record held by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS by two seconds when it went around that track in 6m 44.97s.
The 10,000th Lamborghini Aventador is one such SVJ, in Roadster form and finished in Grigio Acheso grey paint with Rosso Mimir red livery. The interior has been done up under the Ad Personam program in Rosso Alala red and black. The car is destined for the Thai market.
