Porsche is bringing the 918 Spyder production model to Frankfurt
At the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, Porsche had unveiled the 918 Spyder concept. Now, the production model of the same has been readied for the upcoming 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.
"The super sports car with plug-in hybrid drive is not only a technology pioneer but also marks the beginning of a new era for sports car manufacturing. Never before has a super sports car designed for everyday use offered such an impressive bandwidth of dynamic performance combined with the fuel consumption of a compact car," said Porsche, in a statement.
The car is powered by a V8 4.6-litre turbocharged engine with two electric motors and a 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. The conventional mill delivers 608PS and 530Nm of torque, while the motors push out an additional 280PS. The combined output form this plug-in hybrid supercar comes to a massive 887PS of peak power and 800Nm of torque.
The 918 Spyder takes 2.8 seconds to 100kmph, while reaching a top speed of around 340kmph. The car is also being claimed to be frugal with fuel consumption of about 30kmpl. CO2 emissions stand at 79 g/km.
This latest high-performance model will be displayed alongside other Porsche models, including the new 911 Turbo, the "50 Years 911" special edition and the Panamera S E-Hybrid. The Porsche 918 Spyder was also showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance earlier this year.
