Price comparison: Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Mahindra Thar
Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the five-door Jimny in India, with prices starting at Rs 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV offers customers a choice of seven distinctive colour schemes and is available in two primary variants: Zeta and Alpha. While we have previously compared the Jimny to its direct rival, the Mahindra Thar, let us now have a look at the variant-specific prices of both SUVs.

The entry-level variant of the Maruti Jimny is priced at Rs 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom), while the entry-level variant of the Mahindra Thar costs Rs 10.55 lakh (ex-showroom), resulting in a difference of Rs 2.19 lakh between the two. However, it should be noted that the base-spec variants of the Thar are only available in the rear-wheel-drive option, while the prices of its entry-level 4x4 variant start at Rs 13.87 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec Jimny five-door is priced at Rs 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-spec Thar costs Rs 16.78 lakh (ex-showroom). Thus, there is a difference of Rs 1.28 lakh between the two SUVs in terms of their range-topping variants.
The Thar offers customers the choice between soft or hard tops, as well as options for rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. In contrast, the Jimny is available only with a hard top and 4WD option.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny: Powertrain
Under the hood of the Jimny five-door, you'll find a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine that produces 105PS of power and 134.5Nm of torque. It can be paired with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Additionally, prospective customers also have the option to own the Jimny five-door through the Maruti Suzuki Subscribe program, with monthly subscription fees starting from Rs 33,550.
