Production-ready Mahindra five-door Thar spotted testing
While the upcoming Mahindra five-door Thar has been spotted testing on countless occasions, we recently sighted the production-spec test mule of the off-roader, which revealed several fresh details, including the changes to its interior compared to the on-sale three-door Thar.
The pictures show that the new five-door Thar will feature all-LED lighting, including LED projector headlights, indicators, and re-profiled taillamps. Additionally, it will sport a redesigned front grille. Unlike the round rear wheel arches of the three-door model, the five-door version will feature squared-off wheel arches at the rear. The high-mounted stoplight, previously located inside the rear window of the three-door Thar, has been relocated above the glass panel in the production-ready five-door Thar. The Mahindra five-door Thar may also introduce a new set of alloy wheels and rear-wheel disc brakes.
Mahindra five-door Thar: Interior
While there are no spy pictures of the interior, a partly camouflaged cabin offers a close-up look. The forthcoming five-door Thar is expected to feature an upscale cabin with a hint of lifestyle. The most significant improvements over the three-door model include a larger touchscreen infotainment system and a sizable sunroof. The touchscreen is likely to provide features, such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with additional functions similar to the XUV700 equipped with the AdrenoX system. It was also observed to have a terrain mode selector located near the manual gear stick with backlit labels instead of a floor-mounted shifter. However, the upcoming five-door Thar retains the analogue instrument cluster and a mechanical handbrake like the current Thar.
Mahindra five-door Thar: Features
The five-door Thar is expected to come equipped with a range of standard safety features, including six airbags, electronic stability program, hill hold and descent control, ABS with EBD, brake assist, TPMS, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, three-point seat belts, and seatbelt reminders for all seats, among other features. The automaker may also offer distinctive features with the five-door version.
Mahindra five-door Thar: Powertrain
The five-door Thar is likely to carry forward the same powertrains as the three-door version, which includes a 2.0-liter mStallion engine producing 152PS and 300Nm of torque (320Nm with AT) and a 2.2-liter mHawk engine generating 132PS and 300Nm of torque. However, it may instead benefit from more potent diesel and petrol versions offered with the Scorpio-N, producing 175PS/370Nm of torque (400Nm with AT) and 200PS and 370Nm of torque (380Nm with AT), respectively.
Mahindra five-door Thar: Pricing and launchThe new five-door Thar could start from Rs 12-14 lakh and go up to Rs 17-19 lakh. Currently, the three-door Thar prices range between Rs 10.98 lakh and Rs 16.94 lakh (both ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is priced between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect Mahindra to launch the new five-door Thar sometime later next year.
