Rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ertiga expected to launch as Toyota Rumion in India
Toyota India is expected to further expand its range of rebadged Maruti Suzuki offerings in the country, with a Toyota-badged Maruti Suzuki Ertiga next in line. The MPV, named the Toyota Rumion, has already gone on sale in the South African market. Recent trademark filings by Toyota in India suggest that the Ertiga twin could now be headed to the Indian market. Expect to see it here by 2022, following the Ciaz being repackaged as the Toyota Belta.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga vs Toyota Rumion: What's different?
The Toyota Rumion looks near identical to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga with all body panels, lighting and alloy wheels. The only notable change is the three-slat chrome grille and a different palette of exterior paint options. Changes are a bit more prominent on the inside. Here the Rumion gets an all-black cabin with wood inserts and contrating grey/silver upholstery, unlike the beige treatment to the Maruti. As with the other Maruti Suzuki-derived offerings in Toyota's line-up, expect to see the Rumion come in well-equipped variants with a very similar set of features that should include projector headlamps, LED tailamps, leather-trimmed interior elements, keyless entry and go, auto AC, powered mirrors, 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple Carplay and separate AC controls for the second row. Safety features should amount to dual airbags, ABS, rear parking camera and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Toyota Rumion: Engines and specifications
The Toyota Rumion on sale in South Africa is mechanically identical to the Ertiga and is powered by the same K15B 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol motor. This engine makes 105PS and 138 Nm and pairs with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque converter automatic. The ARAI fuel consumption figure should be very similar to that of the Ertiga's 17.99 for the auto and 19.01 for the manual.
Toyota Rumion: Expected launch date and priceAs with the other models shared between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki, the Toyota Rumion should be priced at a slight premium over the equivalent Ertiga but come with a more comprehensive warranty cover and service options. Expect prices to start from Rs 8.75 lakh and go up to Rs 10.75 lakh, ex-showroom.
