Renault Duster based 7-seater Bigster spotted testing

Renault India is currently working on returning the Duster nameplate to India as the new car has already been unveiled in international markets. An interesting point to note is while that is in the works, a 7-seater version of the car has been spotted testing under camouflage in Spain. This bigger version is rumoured to be called the Bigster, a concept car that was already showcased a couple of years ago.

Renault Bigster: Exterior

The Bigster SUV and the Duster are quite obviously very similar in many aspects. To better third-row seating or additional cargo space, the Renault Bigster SUV is around 300 mm longer than the Duster SUV. The upcoming Bigster is seen in spy photos with a blacked-out grille, a big air intake on the front bumper, Y-shaped LED tail lights at the back, and narrow LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs.

Renault Bigster: Powertrain

Under the hood, the cars will be identical. Meaning a choice of 3 powertrains starting with a Hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery pack. One e-motor produces 49PS, while another acts as a starter generator.

Moreover, a 1.2-litre turbocharged mild-hybrid engine will also be available, paired with a six-speed manual transmission in all versions. And a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo bi-fuel engine. Meanwhile, the company will offer a choice of front-wheel and four-wheel-drive options.

Renault Bigster: Interior

From the spy images, its clear that the Duster and Bigster will have an identical cabin. There is a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver's display, Type-C charging ports, automated climate control, a small gear selector and a lot more. ADAS features are yet to be confirmed.

The upcoming Bigster is expected to make its public debut later in 2024. As for the Indian market, we know the Duster will come sometime in the second half of 2025. It will rival cars like the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700 and the MG Hector.
