Renault Triber to be positioned between Kwid and the Duster in India
The year 2019 has all been about all-new offerings debuting in India. MG Motor officially unwrapped the Hector SUV that intends to take on the Tata Harrier and the Jeep Compass while Hyundai India launched the Venue - the company's first ever compact sub-4m SUV that will make its presence felt in the segment dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and also the Mahindra XUV300. Joining this bandwagon is French car manufacturer Renault who will be unveiling the Triber in India. Yes, we haven't mentioned the segment as it believed to usher in an all-new segment that has never been present in the country. The automobile company has already confirmed that the Triber will be unveiled globally in India on June 19.
"Innovation is a key pillar of our business strategy. While we have showcased our intentions and actions towards future mobility on a global scale, we have a strong innovation story in India as well. This is reflected by our clear product strategy to cater to newer and growing segments of India's automotive market.ÃÂ Both Duster and Kwid created a strong legacy for the Renault brand in India. Renault Triber will be another testament to our focus on innovation." commented,ÃÂ Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO & Managing Director, Renault India Operations.
He further added, "Renault Triber is a new car that's been designed and developed for India. It will bridge the gap between Kwid and our SUV offerings in India. With a unique body-style that cannot be classified into a simple category, Renault Triber will offer best-in-class space with first-of-its-kind modularity. We will continue on our innovation journey in India, to develop products that shape the future of India's automobile transformation."
Power will most probably come from the Kwid's 1.0-litre three-cylinder motor which makes 68PS and 91Nm, paired with a five-speed manual or AMT. Although, it might also make sense for Renault to equip the car with the 1.2-petrol from the Renault-Nissan line. This engine powers the Micra and puts out 77PS and 104Nm. Also, given the more heavy-hauling this car is expected to do, a reworked diesel unit based on the 1.5-litre K9K motor would make perfect sense, possibly in a BSVI-ready avatar
