Rimac Nevera now holds the title for the worlds fastest car in reverse

Rimac has previously established a number of world records with its Rimac Nevera supercar, and they have now set another. The Nevera electric hypercar has broken the Guinness record for the highest reverse speed achieved by a production car, achieving 275.74kmph. Rimac test driver Goran Drndak completed the run at the Automotive Testing Papenburg Centre in Germany.

The four electric motors onboard propelled the electric hypercar backwards to a peak speed of 275.74kmph. Rimac claims that because electric motors lack gears, the Nevera may run backwards or forwards at full speed.

Rimac has been seeking world records in the Nevera EV for a long time. For example, the Croatian brand set 23 performance world records in a single day this past May, establishing the Nevera as "the ultimate record-breaking hypercar." Rimac Group won the speed title at Nürburgring in August, beating the lap record for a production EV by 20 seconds.

On paper, the electric hypercar's performance seems ludicrous. Its motors provide 1,914PS and 2,360Nm of torque using a 120-kilowatt-hour battery for electricity. It goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 1.74 seconds, has a quarter mile pace of 8.25 seconds, and a top speed of 412 kmph.

Matija Reni, chief engineer for the Nevera said, "It occurred to us during development that Nevera would probably be the world's fastest car in reverse, but we kind of laughed it off. The aerodynamics, cooling and stability hadn't been engineered for travelling backwards at speed, after all. But then, we started to talk about how fun it would be to give it a shot. Our simulations showed that we could achieve well over 150mph but we didn't have much of an idea how stable it would be â€" we were entering unchartered territory."
