Second-gen MG HS SUV revealed at Goodwood Festival of Speed

After unveiling the striking Cyber GTS concept, MG showcased the second generation HS SUV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which will welcome auto enthusiasts until 14 July. The new-gen HS features an overhauled design, revamped interior, upgraded equipment, and tuned up powertrain options.

New MG HS: Design

The new MG HS measures 4,670mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,634mm in height, with an increased wheelbase of 2,765mm, which is 45mm longer than the previous model. The SUV boasts a new grille, a sleeker roofline, slimmer headlamps, and X-shaped LED taillamps with a full-length light bar, and new wheels. It adopts MG's newer design philosophy, which was first seen on the MG 3 hatchback.

New MG HS: Interior

Inside, the cabin features an all-black theme with contrasting red stitching on the dashboard. There are also new displays: a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Additionally, MG has given it a new 'shuttle-style' gear shifter, a six-way powered driver's seat, heated ORVMs, a wireless charging pad, a 360deg camera, and an electric parking brake. Not to mention, the revamped interior now provides more space with and a 507-litre boot capacity.

New MG HS: Powertrain & Performance

The second-generation MG HS uses an improved 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 170PS and 275Nm of torque. This enables the SUV to go from zero to 100kmph in 9.4 seconds. It is mated to a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Then, MG offers the heavily updated 1.5-litre petrol engine (PHEV) paired with a 209PS electric motor. This powertrain allows the HS to complete 0-100kmph in 6.8 seconds. The electric motor sources the power from a 24.7kWh battery pack, offering a range of about 120km in EV mode.
