Simple One electric scooter India launch on 23 May

At long last Bangalore-based EV start-up Simple Energy has announced that it will launch the new One electric scooter in Bangalore on 23 May, 2023. The launch date has been confirmed almost after a two-year gap since its price announcement. Simple Energy claims that it spent the last two years "vigorously testing" the electric scooter.

Simple One: Details
As mentioned earlier, the EV start-up spent the last two years working on the electric scooter, especially to make its battery pack safer. It has come after hundreds of incidents of electric scooters abruptly catching fire have gone viral on the internet. As a result, the government had to intervene in the matter and thus introduced Automotive Industry Standards (AIS) 156 Amendment. More to the point, Simple Energy claims that it has become the first OEM to comply with Automotive Industry Standards (AIS) 156 Amendment.

Simple One: Battery pack and Range
The previous version of the Simple One came with a 4.8kWh battery pack linked to an 8.5kW electric motor with 72Nm of torque. It promised a 236km range and a top speed of 105kmph. The company says that the One electric scooter is now faster. However, it is hard to say whether it will offer an improved driving range.

The One is likely to be available with four colour schemes: Brazen Black, Namma Red, Azure Blue, and Grace White. In addition, it could continue with the same features, such as a colour TFT display with navigation, smartphone connectivity, all-LED lights, telescopic forks, a monoshock, single-disc setup at the front and back, and 12-inch wheels. The 30 litres of storage capacity is expected to be unchanged.

Simple One: Prices and Rivals
The One e-scooter was previously priced at Rs 1,09,999 and Rs 1,44,999 (ex-showroom). However, the upcoming Simple One is likely to attract a higher premium than the previous version. Upon launch, the One will compete against the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, Vida V1, River Indie, and TVS iQube.
