Skoda Auto Volkswagen in plans for an EV factory and a sub-4-meter SUV for India
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, the Volkswagen Group's Indian affiliate, is exploring a compact electric vehicle for the Indian market and plans to build an EV factory in India after 2025.
According to Thomas Schaefer, CEO of Skoda Auto, India might one day serve as a manufacturing base for inexpensive electric automobiles. He went on to say that a tiny electric vehicle built on a Volkswagen chassis might be released in India. In the second part of this decade, the firm will play a key role in providing inexpensive electric vehicles to India and other developing markets.
To make affordable EVs, Skoda would need to build a new facility. The Skoda Enyaq premium EV is now undergoing a pilot research in India. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India also intends to introduce three additional electric vehicles in the future years.
The Skoda Enyaq electric SUV has a range of 390 km to 500 km, depending on the model, with power outputs that range from 179PS to a vRS variant that pushes out 299PS.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India will also manufacture a new sub-4-meter SUV. The Volkswagen Group debuted four all-new localised models in India as part of the India 2.0 project: the Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia, as well as the Volkswagen Virtus and Volkswagen Taigun. The next localised car from Skoda and VW will be a sub-4m SUV.
Unless the Volkswagen Polo is brought back to India, this new sub-4-meter SUV will be the entry-level car in the Skoda and Volkswagen line-up.
