Skoda India's all-new compact SUV to launch in early 2025
Skoda India aims to introduce two new SUVs in the Indian market, including a sub-4-meter SUV and an EV. In its third big product push following the Kushaq and the Slavia, the Czech brand revealed plans for the all-new compact SUV to launch in India in the first half of 2025 and take on the likes of the Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
Just like most Skoda and VW products in India, the new sub-4 metre SUV will be based on the MQB AO-IN platform. The new model, which has yet to be named, has been teased for the first time. We can see the carmaker's conventional grille and a split headlight configuration with LED DRLs. Furthermore, the bonnet features powerful creases, a design characteristic we have seen in the Kushaq. The car will also have smaller wheels than the Kushaq which currently sits on 16 and 17-inch wheels.
As mentioned, the upcoming Skoda SUV will be built on the same platform as the current Kushaq and Slavia models, which means it would only make sense to use the existing powertrain. The small SUV will be powered by the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with 115PS and 178Nm of torque and will be available in manual and automatic transmission. We're unsure if Skoda will offer the more powerful 1.5-litre engine though.
Skoda India has also launched the "Name Your Skoda" campaign as an innovative way to engage customers. The brand is seeking customers to vote for a name for the new sub-4m SUV. Skoda has submitted five names for consideration: Kylaq, Kariq, Kyroq, Kymaq, and Kwiq, each with a distinctive slogan emphasizing its distinguishing features.
The upcoming sub-4 metre SUV from Skoda should be priced competitively for Skoda to gain any sort of traction in this very popular and crowded space.
Skoda Enyaq
Skoda will also be bringing its first-ever EV, the Enyaq to India later this year. The all-electric SUV will come as a completely imported model. The Czech manufacturer has been testing the SUV in India for a long time and even showcased it at the Bharat Mobility Expo. The Enyaq will most definitely be priced well over Rs 50 lakh.
